Set the Stage!
Music plays an integral part in setting the mood for your wedding festivities. This is true for both the ceremony musicians and the reception entertainment. Careful selection of the musicians will put you one step closer to a successful wedding celebration.
Ceremony Musicians
There are a great many choices with regard to ceremony musicians from the classic piano or string quartet to Scottish bagpipes! Be sure to meet with your clergyman to discuss any possible restrictions on the instruments or choice of music played during your ceremony. Your clergyman may even be able to refer you to a good organist or pianist. Most ceremony musicians will supply you with a taped performance to help you with your selection process.

If you are looking for ceremony musicians or vocalists be sure to check our classical musicians pages.
Reception Entertainment
A great band or DJ will determine whether your guests party all night long or start to fade around 9:00pm! Ensure success by auditioning bands and listening to their audio tapes. Be careful, however, that the tapes have not been remixed as this would make the band sound much better than what you'll be hearing at your wedding!

An even better alternative is a videotape of the band or DJ so that you may review their stage presence and setup. If that is not available perhaps you will be able to catch them at another event before your wedding. Be sure to check the following items:
  • Specify how many musicians will play, and what instuments they will bring.
  • Check with your reception facilities to ensure that there are enough electrical outlets available.
  • It is helpful to hire a band or DJ with prior wedding performance experience. Often, the DJ or band leader will act as the master of ceremonies, and if they are already familiar with the flow of events so much the better.
  • Inform the DJ of the size of the room so that the proper equipment can be secured. Ask what safeguards there are should he/she become ill on your wedding day.
  • Offering your guests a wide range of musical styles will ensure that everyone hears something they like. A versatile band or DJ should be able to supply you with a song list that you can go over to ensure the variety you desire.
  • Be sure to have a written contract specifying all the details: date, time, place, # hours, cost for additionial hours, # musicians, type of equipment, etc.
  • If you need to locate reception entertainment be sure to see our bands and DJ's pages!
